Article Processing Charges (APC)
Pursuant to Item XIII of Protocol No. 21 of the Decisions of the Academic Council of the Medical University – Sofia, dated 05 March 2026, an Open Access Policy for the journals of MU–Sofia and publication fees applicable to all MU–Sofia journals has been adopted, effective as of 01 April 2026, as follows:

The fee is intended to support publishing under the full Gold Open Access model, including costs related to: long-term digital archiving; maintenance of the online platform/website; dissemination and distribution (online and offline); international indexing; maintenance and acquisition of software and hardware; creation of persistent identifiers (DOIs); subscription fees to external organizations or software integrations; implementation of plagiarism detection systems; membership of the publisher/journal in international organizations related to publishing activities; and others.
The fee is charged only after the official acceptance of the manuscript for publication, i.e., following the completion of the peer-review and editorial evaluation process. Upon confirmation of acceptance, the Central Medical Library issues an invoice including: the amount of the fee, payer details, the publisher’s bank information, and the payment deadline. Payment is made by the corresponding author of the accepted manuscript, unless otherwise agreed (e.g., institutional or project funding).
Publication of the article is carried out after receipt of payment. The publication timeline depends on the editorial policy of the respective journal, its periodicity, and volume.
In the event that payment is not received within the specified deadline, the publisher reserves the right to delay or cancel publication.
In cases where payment is made by an institution, grant, or sponsor, the invoice is issued in the name of the respective organization upon receipt of a written request from the author.
All manuscripts are subject to checks for originality and ethical compliance. Editorial decisions are made independently of any financial interests related to processing charges.
