Uterine fi broids – pregnancy complications

Abstract. Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive system. They originate from the smooth muscle cells of the myometrium. Their frequency varies between 50% and 60%. They mainly aff ect women of reproductive age. The most fi broids remain asymptomatic, and their clinical manifestation depends on their location and size. Of great interest is the eff ect of uterine fi broids on pregnancy. Due to the delay in pregnancy and the increasing age of pregnant women, uterine fi broids are often a problem accompanying pregnancy. Fibroids can lead to various complications of pregnancy – miscarriages, premature labor, malpresentations of the fetus, increased risk of operative delivery, low birth weight and postpartum hemorrhage.
