Abstract. Pulmonary abscess, even with reduced frequency, currently occupies an important place in clinical practice. Delaying the diagnosis or wrong diagnosis often leads to subsequent complications and the possibility of surgery. Timely diagnosis and treatment reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality. We present a 57-year-old man who underwent a left lower lobectomy due to a chronic lung abscess. We consider the case in the context of the delayed diagnostic process and the role of surgery in its treatment.

Key words: lung abscess, diagnostics, conservative treatment, surgery
