Abstract. Introduction: Every year in Bulgaria, 40,000 people have had stroke and over 120,000 have been disabled as a result of an already experienced stroke, certified by labor-expert medical commissions (LEMC) and retired due to illness. Bulgaria still occupied leading positions in Europe in terms of the number of strokes, which necessitated effective planning and implementation of care for stroke survivors. The instructors have been those who gave basic knowledge and skills to the students majoring in Nursing. They participated in the theoretical preparation, which they consolidated during the training and practical classes, the clinical practice and the pre-graduation internship. The well-trained students provided the required quality health care. The objective of the study was to analyze the opinion of health care lecturers from three higher educational institutions in Northern Bulgaria regarding the preparation of the students for nursing care planning for patients who have experienced stroke in both inpatient and outpatient environments. Material and Methods: A direct anonymous survey was conducted with questions specially prepared for the purpose, including open, semi-open and closed questions to explore the opinion of the respondents on the investigated issues. The survey included 33 lecturers teaching nursing students. Results: All surveyed lecturers (n = 33) teach topics related to the nursing process. Almost all of the surveyed 87,9% (29) use a “standardized plan” for nursing care in the teaching process, only 12,1% (4) of them gave a negative answer. Only one-third of the lecturers reported strong interest shown by the students in care planning.
