Abstract. Injuries from burns cause serious damage to the body with a high degree of risk to the lives of victims. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 11 million people suffer from burns each year, with 180,000 of them dying as a result of complications. Local lesions of the skin affect the function of all organs and systems in the body, which prolongs the healing process. Depending on the severity of the affected areas and the type of wound surfaces, the treatment approach is determined. This article tracks and analyzes the clinical aspects of the healing process of burn wounds and the effectiveness of the applied methods of local treatment. Worldwide, many authors report on newly introduced wound healing methods, for medicinal products and dressing materials positively affect the healing process, as well as on the importance of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in the modelling and remodelling of affected areas. Current and future studies in this direction should identify new targets and paradigms of innovative treatment approaches, but this requires a health policy will and serious financial resources in the system.
