Abstract. Leadership of health care professionals is critical to effectively addressing health care system challenges, workforce resilience, and positive health care outcomes for populations. A number of countries around the world have a shortage of medical professionals in all specialties, but especially nurses and midwives, which has become a leading health care topic in the last year. At the same time, another no less important problem related to the interest of health care professionals to take leadership and leadership in health care management is emerging. Health care professionals are not interested in taking on leadership roles, motivated by taking on serious responsibility, which is why health care lags behind in leadership development and executive succession planning. Serious work is needed to increase the leadership capacity of health care professionals.
