Formation of professional competence of nurse students in chronic wound care

Abstract. The formation of professional behavior and competence increases and enhances the decisionmaking capabilities of learners and improves the results of their practical activity. Aim: The purpose of the present study is to investigate and analyze the opinion of students of the „Nursing“ specialty regarding the training, their satisfaction and the possibilities of implementing the acquired competencies for care of patients with chronic wounds, as well as to reveal opportunities for using modern training methods in order to increase their professional competences. Materials and Methods: The object of the study are students of the „Nursing“ specialty in the 2nd and 3rd years. Documentary and sociological methods were used in data processing and analysis. A direct individual survey was conducted in the period 6 June – 5 July 2024. 172 respondents who are students from the 2nd and 3rd years of the „Nursing“ specialty at the Faculty of Public Health „Prof. Dr. Tsekomir Vodenicharov, MD“, participated with correctly completed questionnaires. The statistical processing of the data and the graphical presentation of the results were done using MS Excel 2017. Results and Conclusions: The study shows high satisfaction of the students with the training in the studied discipline. At the same time, in order to increase the confi dence of future medical professionals in training, it is necessary to provide additional information about the care of patients with diffi cult-to-heal wounds and innovative methods and means of treatment. There is also a need for increased use of simulations and simulators during training in order to develop professional competence and increase of the quality of health care provided.
