Application of problem-based learning in the clinical training of nurses

Abstract. Problem-oriented approaches to teaching and learning nurses include management of the learning process through a range of simulation techniques and technologies, case studies, clinical cases, clinical problem solving, etc. The goal is to achieve educational outcomes for mastery of knowledge that is the basis for professional behavior and decision-making skills in various clinical situations in order to improve the safety and quality of health care. The purpose of this publication is to present methodological aspects in the planning, organization and application of problem-based learning in the clinical training of nurses. We analysed literary sources, personal teaching experience and observations in specific conditions of the organization of the learning process in the training of nurses were used. A good combination of traditional and innovative teaching methods can increase the effectiveness of the learning process by enabling students to develop clinical thinking, decision-making related to patient health care and nursing care planning, formation of interpersonal skills and teamwork skills that will help to increase the quality of health care and affirm the autonomous functions of the nurse. The presented models for organizing problem-based learning and solving situational tasks and clinical cases can be adapted by other educators and used in nursing education.
