Abstract. The practical training of midwifery students aims to form, train and improve professional knowledge, skills and competences. Objective trends in health care, the importance of human resources put to the test the pedagogical and organizational conditions that provide practical training for midwives. Regular studies of the strengths and weaknesses of practical training, formulation of conclusions and delineation of guidelines for adequate pedagogical activities are necessary. The aim of the scientific report is to study the current state of practical training of student midwives at Trakia University, Faculty of Medicine – Stara Zagora. The opinion of 54 students was analyzed. The study found that clinical practice and pre-graduate internship are the organizational forms of training with the most important role for the professional training of midwifery students. The most prominent factors and conditions that affect the effectiveness of practical training are: patients’ mistrust of students; insufficient control and motivation
by teachers/mentors; irresponsible attitude and the insufficient degree of self-control on the part of the trainees. Practical training provides a high degree of relatively favorable conditions for acquiring professional competences.
