Abstract. Epidermoid cysts are benign congenital hamartomas of ectodermal origin that can occur in any region of our body. Purpose: The purpose of the article is to presented atypical localization and the course of an epidermoid cyst in the sublingual space. Case repord: A 15-year-old boy presented with painless swelling in the floor of mouth just beneath the tongue. The patient had slurred speech and dysphagia since last three months. The tongue was elevated and its mobility was impaired. Treatment included surgical removal of the cyst under general anesthesia through nasotracheal intubation. The histopathological investigation revealed cystic cavity lined by thin, stratified squamous epithelium without any evidence of dermal appendages and confirmed the diagnosis of epidermoid cyst. The surgical wound healed uneventfully. Conclusions: Epidermoid cysts are rarely found in the oral cavity. Total surgical extirpation is recommended as soon as they are diagnosed. Surgical treatment of cysts with significant size is connected with higher risk of complications.
