Abstract. Three-dimensional planning for high-dose-rate brachytherapy in uterine and cervical cancer is strongly recommended by the American Brachytherapy Society and the Groupe Europeen de Curietherapie – European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology. In this article, we describe the experience of Complex Oncology Center – Burgas, in computed tomography (CT) based planning using the vaginal CT/MR multi-channel applicator. We discuss the effect of applicator placement on doses to the organs at risk (OAR), namely bladder and rectum, partly small intestine, dose effect on radiation reactions and survival.
Key words: brachytherapy, critical organs, radiation reactions
