Abstract. In patients with acute myocardial infarction left ventricular free wall rupture is a rare complication (2%), but is associated with high mortality from pericardial tamponade. It occurs in 10-15% of all deaths associated with acute myocardial infarction. Reducing this high mortality is possible with improvement in the diagnostic process. This could help doctors better expect myocardial rupture, better prevent it and achieve better therapeutic results. In this article we examine a fast and reliable method for treatment of an already occurred complication of myocardial infarction. We also review the management of this disease and offer a therapeutic algorithm that could be successfully applied in an emergency situation.
