Abstract. Ionizing radiation is a proinflammatory signal, and normal tissues respond immediately to radiation exposure. The mechanism underlying the radiation-induced inflammatory response is not fully understood. The information provided emphasizes the induction of proinflammatory mediators as a result of radiation, as well as pulmonary and intestinal mucosa radiation injuries due to inflammatory response. Our own results for elevated levels of cytokines and chemokines in the experimental model were compared with literature data.
Key words: ionizing radiation, inflammation, cytokines, lungs, intestinal mucosa
