Abstract. The application of platelet concentrates in operative wounds during surgery of a lower third molar improves the early recovery period, prevents the occurrence of infl ammatory complications and stimulates bone regeneration. Objective: This study shows whether the recently updated methodology with platelet-rich plasma has advantages regarding the restored bone structure, several months after removal of a lower third molar. Materials and methods: 150 patients with extracted lower wisdom teeth were divided into 5 groups: one control – without added platelet concentrate and four experimental groups, in which platelet-rich plasma extracted by four diff erent methods was added. The clinical results regarding the type of bone structure restored in the area of the removed tooth were analysed on 3rd and 6th month. Results: Clinical results and statistical processing of the data showed a relationship of varying degrees between the use of platelet-rich plasma and the degree of bone structure recovery in the operative wounds of mandibular third molar surgery. Conclusion: The methodology with the addition of platelet concentrate in post-extraction areas has an impact on the structure of the restored bone, months after the surgical removal of a lower third molar.
