Analysis of the incidence of malignant endometrial polyps and evaluation of age as a risk factor for malignancy

Abstract. Polyps of the endometrium are a risk factor for uterine cancer, which is the reason why endometrial carcinoma occurs nine times more frequently in patients with endometrial polyps. The incidence of malignant transformation can range from 0.8% to 8%, and in some literature sources up to 12%, and depends on the method of material collection for histological examination or the therapeutic approach used. A retrospective study of 484 women with endometrial polyps, malignant endometrial polyps and endometrial carcinomas was conducted in the Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University Hospital “St. George” EAD in Plovdiv over a five-year period. All study participants underwent diagnostic panoramic hysteroscopy followed by histopathological examination. The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence of malignant endometrial polyp and to evaluate age as a risk factor for malignant transformation of endometrial polyps.
