Abstract. Multiple fractures are a major factor for disability after trauma incidents. The anatomic and physiologic properties of the upper limb predispose the occurrence of fractures in more than one locus within the context of serious trauma. In this regard, combined complex fractures of a unilateral upper limb are a challenge to the orthopedic and trauma surgeon. Treatment must be well planned and executed precisely in order to get maximum results and a good level of satisfaction and improvement in the patient’s daily life activities. We present a case report of a patient with complex fractures of the upper extremity – fractures of the shoulder, elbow and wrist – all on the dominant side. After careful examination and planning we decided to opt for a 3-stage operative treatment. In 10 working days, the aff ected upper limb was completely restored with three operations. The postoperative and early follow-ups showed promising results in function and good patient satisfaction level. The goal of this study is to stress the necessity of careful planning and individual approach in such complex cases.
Key words: multiple fractures, upper limb, operative treatment, individual approach
