Journals of MU – Sofia Transition to Gold Open Access and English-Language Publishing from 1 April 2026
Medical University – Sofia continues its strategic efforts towards the development and internationalisation of its scientific journals.
Pursuant to the Decisions of the Academic Council dated 5 March 2026, the following journals: Acta Medica Bulgarica, Bulgarian Medical Journal, Medical Review, General Medicine, and Information for Nursing Staff will introduce Article Processing Charges (APCs) to support the transition to full Gold Open Access, еffective 1 April 2026.
This step aims to ensure broader accessibility, increased international visibility, and the sustainable development of scholarly publishing.
As part of this internationalisation process, the journals will publish content entirely in English (with the exception of Information for Nursing Staff / Сестринско дело which will be bilingual), in order to facilitate wider dissemination and integration into the global scientific community.
For manuscripts submitted on or after 1 April 2026, the respective APCs for each journal will apply. The fee is payable by author(s) only after successful completion of the peer-review process and formal acceptance for publication.
Editorial decisions are made independently of payment and are based solely on the scientific merit of the manuscripts and the outcome of the peer-review process.
