National Library Week 2026 @Central Medical Library

For the 20th consecutive year, the Bulgarian Library and Information Association (BLIA) is organising the advocacy campaign “National Library Week”. The main aim of the campaign is to draw the attention of the public and institutions to the current challenges facing the library sector in Bulgaria. As part of the initiative, libraries across the country organise events and present the leading trends in the development of library and information services.

“Through this advocacy campaign, we, library professionals, call for adequate library policies, targeted investment in the maintenance, modernisation and expansion of library facilities, and the safeguarding of Bulgarian citizens’ right to use modern libraries.”
– Bulgarian Library and Information Association

The Central Medical Library, an active member of BLIA, supports the initiative and joins it with the following activities for its users.

“Reader of the Year” and “Volunteer of the Year” Awards

On 15 May, we will announce the name of the reader with the highest number of library visits in the period from May 2025 to May 2026, as well as the person distinguished for their active volunteer support for the library.

Video campaign: The Library through the eyes of students

We asked students from the Medical University – Sofia to share how they use the Central Medical Library, what they find most useful, and why the library is an important place for learning, knowledge, and support.

No-Fee Week

Register with the library and get a free library card for one year if you are part of Medical University – Sofia, or for one month if you do not study or work at the University.
Return your overdue books between 11 and 15 May with no late fees! If you have been putting off returning the textbooks you borrowed from the library, now is the perfect time to do it — with no fines and no worries. Through this initiative, we encourage the responsible use of library resources and support wider access to valuable textbooks and scholarly publications for all students and readers.
