Abstract. Early diagnosis of melanoma is crucial for successful treatment. The earlier the disease is detected, the greater the chances of a full recovery are. In this article, we present the role of a nurse whose vigilance and experience after retirement played a key role in saving a young life. While walking in the park, the retired nurse noticed a 25-year-old woman with an unusual black rash on her left leg. She instinctively approached her and offered her help. Thanks to her many years of experience, the nurse recognized dangerous symptoms and strongly advised the girl to see a dermatologist. It later turned out to be melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer. Thanks to the nurse’s timely response, the woman received adequate treatment and recovered.
