An overview of emotional competence in delivering healthcare services

Abstract. The review aims to reflect the diversity of the topic and to present leading theoretical models that offer a deeper understanding of the nature of emotional intelligence and the recognition of its manifestations as emotionally competent health care behavior. Practical guidelines for developing emotional intelligence and achieving emotional competence through training and programs aimed at healthcare professionals are offered. We define this aspect as significant for healthcare practice based on the thesis that mastering emotional competencies is an essential factor for achieving both personal and professional development of healthcare professionals and for implementing healthcare based on quality service and ethical attitude towards patients.
