Abstract. An increasing lack of medical specialists working in the field of intensive care is obsreved. Over the past 20 years, we have reported a shortage of over 30,000 nurses. The lack of quality patient care has become significant in recent years and is worsening our nation’s health indicators. A proper organization of medical facilities is required in order that medical specialists can work efficiently and without unnecessary workload and stress. These aspects are already regulated: an ordinance on the competencies of the various professions, medical standards, a code of professional ethics, etc., are adopted. The development and use of protocols for health care also contribute to the facilitation of the work process in nursing cares, support the training of new medical staff on specific nursing activities, and improve the quality of work. This comprehensive and systematic process is essential for specialists and interns working as a multidisciplinary team in the severe conditions of intensive care.
