The Reggio Emilia approach – an innovative solution for child upbringing, education and care

Abstract. The Reggio Emilia approach is a globally recognised educational model characterised by its creativity, fl exibility and relevance to the contemporary world. It employs some of the most engaging methods for early childhood development, alloiwng children to fully relise their potential by stimulating decision-making skills, encouraging their creative and inquisitive spirit. The aim of this brief review is to present the Reggio Emilia approach as an innovative solution for child upbringing, education and care. The article includes a concise historical overview of the approach’s origins and traces the development of the concept of creating a place to allow children’s creative potential to fl ourish. This review also highlights the signifi cance of the environment in nurturing children’s cognitive development as well as the essential role of educators, whose approach is uniquely open, transdisciplinary, modern yet enchanting, artistic and boundless.
